Local aerodrome regulations

The Ground/Tower Controller provides information about the initial climb, which is 5000 ft. Information is not provided when further ATC (APP Gdansk/ACC Warszawa) is offline.

Gdańsk TWR controller does not require clearance from APP Gdańsk for takeoff permission (the “departure release” is not required).

In addition to clearances issued via radio, ATS has an option to issue ATC clearance via Dalatink Departure Clearance (DCL). Departure Clearance Request (RCD) should be initiated:

  • no earlier than 30 minutes prior to EOBT or CTOT (if CTOT is assigned),
  • no later than 5 minutes prior to EOBT or CTOT (if CTOT is assigned).

After initiating the datalink process, cews shall continously monitor frequency given in ATIS in the data exchange process in case of any changes.

ATC clearance can be issued by ATC via radio even after initiating the Departure Clearance Request (RCD) via datalink.

Minimum runway occupancy time

ATC will consider every aircraft at the holding point as able to commence line up and take-off roll after clearance issued with no delay.

Where possible, cockpit checks and cabin readiness shall be completed before line-up and any actions requiring completion on the runway shall be minimised.

If the taxi distance between the parking stand and holding position is short, it is suggested to finish the passenger cabin safety procedures demo before vacating the parking stand.

Ground movement procedures

Runway 11/29 is equipped with rapid-exit taxiways, for runway 11: TWY D and A1; for runway 29: TWY E and TWY G.

The crew should be given an instruction to, if possible, vacate runway via the rapid-exit taxiway.

*When STD 20A is used by aircraft with a wingspan greater than 36 m, TWY M is not available from STD 21 and STD 22 to the intersection with TWY R.

*When STD 28 is used by aircraft with a wingspan greater than 36 m, TWY M is not available from STD 26 to the intersection with TWY N.

TWY R is mainly used to serve aircraft stands 8-11. However, it can be also used by aircraft with a wingspan not greater than 36 m for taxiing between TWY M and TWY L.

Because simulating FOLLOW ME on VATSIM is not permitted, when issuing clearance requring FOLLOW ME assistance, phrase “taxi into stand with own discretion” is mandatory.

Ground Traffic Surveillance

Gdansk Airport is equipped with a ground traffic surveillance system using mode S.

Departing aircraft shall select the assigned code (squawk) and activate Mode S before commencing push-back at the latest or, when push-back is not necessary, before commencing taxi. TCAS shall not be activated before obtaining a line-up clearance.

The transponder of a landing aircraft shall be turned on until the aircraft stops at the parking position. TCAS shall be deactivated immediately upon vacating the RWY.

Aircraft DE-ICING

Deicing is performed at Apron 5, at stands 50, 51 (for aircraft with wingspan not greater than 36 m) and stand 50A (for aircraft with wingspan grater than 36 m). When stand 50A is used, stands 50 and 51 can not be used.

VFR traffic

Flights shall take place according to the published VFR routes. Shortcuts, other than published, should not be used for flight planning.

Constant (cruising) altitude and pattern altitude for VFR flights in CTR EPGD is 1500 ft.

It is caused by dense buildings and high obstacles surrounding the airport. Flights shall not take place below that altitude. Flight above that altitude require coordination with APP or ACC controller (if online).

Descent below 1500 ft is permitted only in close vicinity of the airport, during published holding procedures over VFR reporting points, approaches and runway operations. During high traffic load, aircraft in VFR flight may be instructed to hold as published over the following points:

  • point NOVEMBER – Arrival from MIKE or INDIA. Holding on the north side of NOVEMBER,
  • point SIERRA – arrival from XRAY or ZULU. Holding on the south side of SIERRA.

At EPGD radar service is provided for airborne traffic. Traffic is controlled according to PANS-ATM 4444 Chapter 8.

Low Visibility Procedures (LVP)

LVP operations will be commenced when any of the RVR falls below 550 m and/or the cloud ceiling falls below 200 ft.

Pilots are informed about LVP being in operation via ATIS or by radio, with use of following phraseology: “Low visibility procedures in operation”.

If weather conditions does not allow CAT II approaches the following phraseology should be used instead: “Low visibility procedures in operation. CAT II/III not available”.

LVP will be terminated when all of the RVR increase over 600 m and the cloud ceiling reaches 200 ft or more and a continuing improvement is anticipated.

During LVP for landing only runway 29 should be used. After landing runway should be vacated via taxiway E, G or H and reported to ATC.

During LVP/LVTO, RWY 11 and RWY 29 will be used for take-off for departing aircraft. RWY 29 may be accessed via TWY A1, B or C, and RWY 11 via TWY H

Minimum RVR for departure is 125 m.
