TMA Poznań and Zielona Góra

Airspace characteristics

The TMA Poznań airspace is Class C, extending up to FL195.

APP Poznań provides radar air traffic control for arriving and departing aircraft at:

  • Poznań/Ławica Airport [EPPO],
  • Poznań/Krzesiny Airport [EPKS],
  • Wrocław/Strachowice Airport [EPWR], as well as initial radar descent for Zielona Góra Airport [EPZG].

In the event that the TWR Zielona Góra controller is offline, APP Poznań ensures procedural control within TMA Zielona Góra.

Sectors configuration

Allowed sector configurations:

  • two-sector: ANPO, ASPO;
  • single-sector: ANPO.

Two-sector configuration: ANPO, ASPO

The ANPO and ASPO controllers are responsible for their respective sectors, TMA Poznań North and TMA Poznań South.

The Northern sector is responsible for air traffic control within the vicinity of Poznań/Ławica Airport [EPPO], as well as for initial descent of arrivals to Poznań/Krzesiny Airport [EPKS] and Zielona Góra Airport [EPZG].

The Southern sector is responsible for air traffic control within the vicinity of Wrocław/Strachowice Airport [EPWR].

In the case of a single-sector configuration, the active frequency is that of the northern station (128.925 MHz). Both sectors (northern and southern) fall under the control of the ANPO controller.

caution

The controller should pay special attention to any aircraft movements at EPWR (Wrocław/ Strachowice Airport), as the crew may not be aware that the airport is under the control of the ANPO controller.

POTMA

Standard Operating Procedures

The controllers of ANPO and ASPO sectors are required to manage arriving air traffic in such a way that the final approach does not exceed 25 NM from the runway threshold.

Whenever possible, considering the current traffic and meteorological situation, APP will manage and plan traffic to enable the application of the CDA technique.

Arriving aircraft should maintain a smooth configuration for as long as possible. Speed reduction below Minimum Clean Speed (MCS) is permitted no earlier than 15 NM from the airport or upon an explicit request from the flight crew.

The ANPO and ASPO controllers may use the following tactical points for a shortened approach (below the standard FAP/FAF altitude of 3,000 ft) only with crew approval or upon their request:

  • EPPO (Poznań/Ławica Airport):
    • PO702 (ILS 28), NUNBI (RNP 28), PO482 (VOR 28),
    • OBELI (RNP 10), PO412 (VOR 10);
  • EPWR (Wrocław/Strachowice Airport):
    • WR702 (ILS 29, RNP 29), WR392 (VOR 29),
    • WR602 (RNP 11), WR492 (VOR 11).

SID EPPO and EPWR does not specify an initial climb altitude. Flight crews must be informed as soon as possible to climb initially to 6000 ft altitude.

Special attention is recommended when coordinating arrivals through the XIDNA point to avoid conflicts with departures via XIDNA.

To facilitate and reduce coordination between ANPO and ASPO in the vicinity of the XIDNA point, it is recommended to issue clearances for aircraft to cross this point at the following altitudes:

  • EPPO and EPWR departures via XIDNA: FL150 or above,
  • EPWR arrivals via XIDNA: FL140 or below.

An aircraft may be vectored only within controlled airspace and above the MRVA in a given TMA sector, while avoiding prohibited and restricted areas.

Coordination with other ATC units

TWR Poznań and TWR Wrocław

The APP Poznań controllers remain in constant coordination with TWR Poznań and TWR Wrocław controllers.

TWR controllers designate active runways for the respective airports based on the runway selection methods outlined in the Aerodrome Traffic Control Chapter of this instruction.

It is stipulated that a change of active runways should occur no earlier than 30 minutes after notifying the APP controller of the need for a change. The APP controller will then begin adjusting the arrival sequence for the new runway.

Information regarding the runway in use must always be shared among all APP controllers.

Departures from EPPO and EPWR do not require an APP controller's clearance (“departure release”).

At the request of the TWR controller, the appropriate APP controller provides information on the distance in miles or time in minutes to the threshold for arriving traffic, to improve runway efficiency.

TWR Zielona Góra

The TWR Zielona Góra controller is responsible for procedural control within TMA Zielona Góra (FL95).

The TWR Zielona Góra controller coordinates with the APP Poznań (ANPO) controller regarding the departure conditions for aircraft whose route passes through TMA Poznań. In other cases, departures are coordinated directly with ACC Warszawa.

Clearances for aircraft departing from Zielona Góra Airport toward TMA Poznań include a climb up to FL100.

Control transfer should take place at the boundary of TMA, both from TWR Zielona Góra to APP Poznań and from APP Poznań to TWR Zielona Góra.

APP Gdańsk

Due to the shape of UTMA Gdańsk, arrivals from the north cross through TMA Gdańsk airspace. It is expected that arrivals from the northern direction will be initially descended by APP Gdańsk.

APP Kraków

Due to the proximity of Wrocław/Strachowice Airport [EPWR] and Katowice/Pyrzowice Airport [EPKT], arrivals from the west to EPKT cross through TMA Poznań airspace.

ACC Warszawa will descend aircraft to an initial descent level of no lower than FL190 for arrivals via MOFKE. Further descent will be conducted by or with the approval of APP Poznań down to the established altitudes.

TWR/PAR Krzesiny

Arrivals to EPKS (Poznań/Krzesiny Airport) occur via the points BESTO, DUDCO, EKTIZ, ODMIQ, TITQE, UVCOV, and are descended to flight levels established individually with ACC Warszawa and PAR Krzesiny controllers.

APP Poznań is not required to provide “top-down” control within the MCTR Krzesiny when TWR Krzesiny is offline. The controller only guides aircraft as far as possible to stabilize on the final approach path and recommends that the crew continue with attention to Advisory Frequency. The controller is required to establish communication with all aircraft departing from EPKS entering TMA Poznań.

When a PAR Krzesiny controller is logged in, APP Poznań vectors aircraft to ensure that the aircraft is within the radar range of the precision approach (±15° from the extended centerline, no more than 15 NM from the landing point). The distance to which the aircraft should be vectored should not be less than 1 NM from the interception point of the descent path. For a 3° descent path, the aircraft should not be vectored closer than 11 NM from the landing point.

APP Poznań does not authorize precision approaches.

After vectoring the aircraft on a course intercepting the final approach path within the radar coverage of PAR, the controller instructs the aircraft to establish communication with Krzesiny Precision.
